Building

The Building Committee develops the building plans and manages all phases of construction. Specific duties include designing and planning and budgeting for the house construction. The committee also coordinates, trains and supervises volunteers working at the building site. They obtain permits, purchase materials, equipment and supplies, and hire and coordinate contractors.

Development/Publicity

Members are responsible for fundraising within the Tri-Cities area.. The quarterly newsletter is a responsibility of this committee as well as the annual fund drive. Members of the Development/Publicity Committee attend community events to promote Habitat for Humanity, to raise money and to solicit volunteers. The Speakers Bureau, a subcommittee of this group, talks to community groups, civic organizations, businesses and churches about Habitat to raise awareness and interest. Church relations, a part of the Development/Publicity Committee, coordinates Habitat Sunday which is held each September. Many area churches participate throughout the year by holding a workday at the building site.

Family Selection

The Family Selection Committee provides application forms and materials for prospective Habitat families. The committee reviews incoming applications according to Criteria for Selection and creates a time line for selection. Two members of the Selection and Partnership Committees make an initial home visit to qualified applicants. Two different committee members make a second home visit. The entire group reviews the reports from the home visits and selects a family. The Board of Directors makes final approval of that family. The Family Selection Committee works hard to keep families informed of the status of their applications.

Family Partnership

This committee helps families gain independence and confidence to do things that they may not previously experienced. Members of the committee act as family advocates. Advocates are directly involved with the family and guide them through the home ownership process, monitoring sweat equity hours, providing home ownership classes and developing a relationship of friendship and trust. Family Partnership Committee members work jointly with family selection to interview families and to help decide which families will be chosen for a Habitat home.

Nominating/Volunteer

This committee is responsible for recruiting and recommending new members for all committees and the Board of Directors. The committee matches the skills and desires of potential volunteers with the skills and attributes necessary for committee membership. They work to promote diversity in all areas. Members attend a number of public events to solicit volunteers and to promote Habitat within the community.

Site Selection

Members of the Site Selection Committee work to find suitable properties for Habitat to build on or to rehabilitate. They meet with various town officials, companies and individuals to investigate all potential sites. Once a site has been found, committee members work with the donor to prepare for the legal transfer of the property and to secure necessary permits and variances necessary for Habitat to take ownership.
