Being a Family Partner means ...

  • Moving from life in substandard, poverty housing to living in a safe, decent and affordable home of your own.
  • Being salt and light in the community as you carry the Habitat name.
  • Completing the VHDA homeownership class.
  • Receiving coaching on financial planning.
  • Volunteering 300 hours to build your own and other families' houses, alongside volunteers and our Class-A builder.
  • Paying a no-profit mortgage of $350 - 400 per month.
  • Owning a home – perhaps becoming the very first homeowner in your family.
  • Having a long-term stake in your neighborhood.
  • Investing in your long-term financial future.
  • Planting fruit trees and flowers that are yours.
  • Having a family-home front porch on which to welcome your grandchildren.

Welcome to the community of Family Partnership!

What's the next step?   Giving us a call at: 732-5793.

The Family Partnership steps are ...

  1. Going through the screening process, which includes looking at income, credit, need, and reference checks.
  2. Being approved by the Habitat Board of Directors for partnership.
  3. Working with the volunteers and staff of Habitat until the house is completed.
  4. Depositing $800 with Habitat to help with closing costs.
  5. Taking the required VHDA class.
  6. Purchasing the house, which normally  includes signing a 30 year mortgage loan note.
  7. Making the monthly mortgage payment: which covers your note payment, homeowner's insurance, and property taxes.
  8. Paying your own utilities.
  9. Being a kind and considerate neighbor.
  10.  Maintaining the house in good condition.

“For a community to be whole and healthy, it must be based on people's love and concern for each other.”

– Millard Fuller,

founder of Habitat for Humanity (1935-2009)
